A CHOSEN PEOPLE

So get rid of all evil behavior. Be done with all deceit, hypocrisy, jealousy, and all unkind speech.  1 Peter 2:1

week ending 11/8/09
Step Toward A Godly Walk uses the Interntational Sunday School Lessons in the hopes more Christians will take Jesus with them throughout the day.  And The New Living Translation of The Bible because that is the one easiet for me to understand and apply to my life.  Maybe if more of us are reading the same scriptures we can use our discussions to expose others to the Living Word of God and the Savior he provided for us all in a positive way.

Prepare your mind to being shaped by God....

Close your eyes   and use your breathing to set the rhythm of your prayer.
As you breath in.......relax.....
imagine drawing into yourself
the goodness of
 Jesus.

Love, Forgiveness, Peace, Holiness
As you breath out....relax further.........imagine letting go and giving out:
hate, resentment, revenge, unkindness.

So get rid of all evil behavior. Be done with all deceit, hypocrisy, jealousy, and all unkind speech.  1 Peter 2:1

Read just the scripture for today.....don't try to read ahead......what is God saying to you .....just for today ?
Sincere comments and questions welcome comforts@bluefieldassistant.net  and if you have read a commentary for one of the above scripture readings - -PLEASE send me the link.
HOME DAILY BIBLE READINGS
Monday Nov. 2: Deuteronomy 10:10-15

Deuteronomy 10:13 And you must always obey the Lord’s commands and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good.  YIKES!  must (not an option).... always (not just when it suits me.... obey (do as I say).... commands (not suggestions)

Tuesday Nov. 3: Psalm 33:4-12

Psalm 33:12 What joy for the nation whose God is the Lord, whose people he has chosen as his inheritance. Seems to me this explains alot about why are nation seems to have lost it's joy.

Wednesday Nov. 4: Psalm 33:13-22

Psalm 33:18 But the Lord watches over those who fear him, those who rely on his unfailing love.
He sees the whole human race ....he understands everybody's actions.   God knows why our world looks like it does today.....BUT he keeps His eyes tuned on those who choose to be His people.

Thursday Nov. 5: Acts 10:34-43

Acts 10:35 In every nation he accepts those who fear him and do what is right.
Some Christians don’t like the word fear associated with their God.   They want to keep Him in their little love box.  But as parents we can understand that our children don’t always DO what is right without that healthy fear of the consequences.

What is the Lord asking you to DO today?

Is he asking you to speak out against injustice?  or  to help those less fortunate than yourself ?  visit or send a card to a sick friend?  spend the day in prayer?  He is asking you to do something and there are consequences if you don't.

Are you afraid?

Friday Nov. 6: Acts 4:31-37
Acts 4:31 After this prayer, the meeting place shook, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. Then they preached the word of God with boldness.

“after this prayer” what prayer is that?  I better look that up!

Acts 4: 29 And now, O Lord, hear their threats, and give us, your servants, great boldness in preaching your word. 30 Stretch out your hand with healing power; may miraculous signs and wonders be done through the name of your holy servant Jesus.”

Seems to me it wouldn't be a bad idea to add this prayer to our daily prayers!
Saturday Nov. 7: 1 Peter 2:11-17

1 Peter 2:6 For you are free, yet you are God’s slaves, so don’t use your freedom as an excuse to do evil. 17 Respect everyone, and love your Christian brothers and sisters. Fear God, and respect the king.

Free but yet God's slaves!  As God's slaves are we respecting everyone? Loving ALL our Christian brothers and sisters? Fearing God?

Our demise comes from within our own ranks.  Without love and respect of each other ... how can we ever work together?

Sunday Nov. 8: 1 Peter 2:1-10

1 Peter 2:9 But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.

But you are not like that” You obey God’s word, you have gotten rid of evil behavior, all deceit, hypocrisy, jealousy, and all unkind speech.  (Ouch!  I'm stepping on my own toes.....how about you?)
